Sheila Hébert – Author – Stonefield Stories

Jan. 27, 2016 – Interview with Louise Sproule

Sheila Hébert’s parents were looking for a safe haven for their family during World War II, just in case the fighting crossed the ocean and made Montreal a dangerous place. A little country house along the Ottawa River in Stonefield, Quebec, (not far from Carillon, Quebec) with space for a garden, became their summer home and was their planned refuge if it was ever needed.

As it turned out, war never came to Montréal, but eventually, the family’s Stonefield summer home was expropriated to make way for the Carillon Dam. Decades later, Hébert has penned a series of stories from those golden days spent in Stonefield – the memories of wonderful summers and the characters and families she grew to know – had stayed with Hébert during her life as a wife, mother and teacher.

Her collection of stories is now published and the first order of books has arrived, some of which are on sale at The Review. Stonefield Stories will be for sale soon online and will be available as an e-book.
